| General Makeup Tips: 1. Putting your eyeliner in the freezer for at least 15 minutes before sharpening will ensure a perfect point without any crumbling. 2. You can steady your hand when lining your eyes by resting your elbows on a table. 3. To make the whites of eyes look brighter, use a light blue pencil under the eye. Blue eye shadow applied lightly under the eyes works just as well. 4. To help eyeliner stay fresh, brush over with eye shadow. 5. After applying eye shadow and liner, dust powder over the eyelids before adding mascara. The powder sets the shadow and liner, and adds a layer of thickness on lashes. 6. For those with wide-set eyes: To make eyes look closer together, brush deep toned shadow on inner halves of the lids. Use light toned shadows on the outer halves. 7. For those with close-set eyes: Open up eyes by applying deep toned shadow on outer halves of the lids. Brush light toned shadows on the inner halves. You can also create a wide-eyed look by using white eyeliner along the lash line and softly smudging it with a sponge applicator. Lashes: 1. Using an eyelash curler before you apply mascara will shape your lashes and extend them to their fullest potential. 2. To get the best curl out of your eyelashes, use a blow dryer to heat an eyelash curler for 10 seconds before using. 3. Curl twice for a rounded curl. Place the open curl near the lash roots and arrange your lashes between the two rims. Squeeze gently for thirty seconds. Squeeze again at mid-lash for another thirty seconds. The result will look very natural. 4. If you have problems putting on mascara without getting it on the skin below the eye, try bending the tip to an angle (to resemble a dentist's mirror) to give you more control. Also you can hold a tissue under the lash to prevent mascara from getting on the skin. 5. Try to apply only one and not more than two coats of mascara. After applying mascara, use an eyelash comb to remove any clumps and to separate lashes. 6. Do not pump the mascara wand into the container because it will push air into the container and dry out the mascara faster. Instead, insert the wand, turn it a couple of times and pull it out. 7. If your mascara is getting dried out and thick, soak the entire tube (closed) in a glass of hot water. Let cool before applying. 8. Replace mascara every three months to avoid bacteria as well as clumping. 9. Use unscented baby wipes to remove eye makeup. Rub lightly. Eyebrow Tips: 1. Thin tweezers are best for removing small, fine hairs and in-grown hairs. Slanted tweezers are the most versatile, providing the best control. Square tweezers are best for grasping coarse hairs. 2. Old, soft toothbrushes make great eyebrow brushes. 3. Brush the brow upward and outward to determine the natural arch. Tweeze under the brow to form an arch. 4. Pluck brows before bedtime so any redness will be long gone by morning. 5. Tweeze immediately after showering or apply a hot washcloth to loosen hair follicles. 6. Pluck one hair at a time and always in the direction they are growing. 7. To soften the sting of tweezing, rub the area with an ice cube. 8. After tweezing, soothe the area with cool, wet tea bags. 9. Never pluck one eye at a time. It's essential that you alternate from eye to eye to achieve a symmetrical look. 10. Don't over-tweeze. It can take several weeks for the hair to grow back. (That's a long time to suffer from an avoidable mistake.) Always follow the "less is better" approach. Remedies for Puffy Eyes: 1. Place cucumber slices over closed eyes for approximately 20 minutes. 2. Soak a cotton ball in chilled Milk of Magnesia. Apply under each eye and let it dry for several minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. 3. Put 2 metal spoons in the freezer for about 5 minutes, then put them over your closed eyes for approximately 10 minutes. 4. Peel an avocado, remove the pit and slice a half into quarter-inch crescents. Place a few slices under each eye for about 20 minutes. 5. Inexpensive teas that contain tannic acid (not herbal teas) such as Lipton and Red Rose are also great for refreshing eyes. Place a wet teabag over each closed eye for about 20 minutes. 6. To help reduce under-eye circles, place a raw potato slice (which contains potassium) over each closed eye for approximately 20 minutes. |
